Leicester Hypnotherapy - IBS
Irritable Bowel Syndrome
One of the most common problems of the bowel system, Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS) causes abdominal pain and distension, bloating and altered bowel habit. Abdominal pain associated with IBS can range from mild to severe, and can worsen as a result of eating, which means that IBS can seriously affect a person’s quality of life.
If you suffer from IBS, then you are only too aware of how debilitating those painful symptoms of cramping, bloating, diarrhea and constipation can be.
Although the exact cause of IBS is unknown, psychological factors such as stress may trigger IBS symptoms. Because of this, the use of mind-body interventions such as hypnosis are very effective methods of treating IBS.
How Hypnotherapy can help deal with your Irritable Bowel
Since hypnosis is excellent for controlling bodily functions, the symptoms of IBS can be greatly relieved. Hypnotherapy not only reduces the symptoms of IBS but improves your quality of life, reducing anxiety, which is linked to the condition, markedly.
There are several ways in which hypnotherapy can be used in successful IBS treatment:
1. Stress and anxiety are closely linked to IBS symptoms. By determining what factors trigger stress in your life and addressing these triggers, stress and IBS symptoms can be controlled.
2. By releasing stress and anxiety in your life, returning your body to its natural state, a state where your immune system is working effectively.
3. Improving stress management through self-hypnosis. This will allow you to learn positive responses to stressful situations. These new positive reactions to stress triggers will prevent them triggering the painful spasms and cramps associated with IBS.
What will I expect in a typical hypnotherapy session dealing with IBS?
Since every client is different, therapy is tailored to the client’s individual symptoms, with suggestions made to the subconscious mind to improve the problems associated with symptoms. Metaphors and positive visualization techniques may be used to bring about improvement in symptoms. The client is given a CD in order to practise self-hypnosis at home, reducing stress and stimulating healthy bowel movements.
How many sessions will I need?
In general, typical treatment lasts between one to five sessions. It is important to effect changes within ourselves at a rate that we are comfortable with. My goal is to resolve your problem with IBS as quickly as possible.
